Who defines student success?  In many locales funding is based on completion rates (i.e., student retention, persistence, and graduation rates). While campus conversations surrounding these issues often include the term ‘student success’ few discussions focus on who defines the term. Toolkit 1 includes the chapter “Who Defines Student Success” from the book Beyond Foundations: Developing as a Master Advisor and support materials that stimulate conversations regarding the myriad of issues surrounding how students, advisors, and an institution define student success. Strategies are shared that will help advisors balance the various definitions and often competing expectations for success.    

Each e-download Toolkit includes the materials needed for an effective professional development ‘hot topic workshop’. Included are: 1) a chapter from a best-selling NACADA/Jossey-Bass book, 2) reader learning outcomes focused on important themes, 3) activities/questions to guide discussions, and 4) support resources (i.e., case studies, checklists, or questions) that improve advising practice.

Colleagues who purchased this toolkit have used it for individual professional development and as a common reading via their campus learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and in workshops.
